1.1 Background of the Study
Kannywood films, produced in the Hausa language, often reflect the values, traditions, and social norms of northern Nigeria. These films are not only a form of entertainment but also a vehicle for promoting social and cultural ideals. Family unity, a cornerstone of Hausa culture, is frequently depicted in Kannywood films, where family relationships, respect for elders, and the importance of unity are emphasized (Sani & Umar, 2023).
In Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State, where family plays a central role in social structure, this study will explore how Kannywood films contribute to promoting family unity and strengthening familial bonds.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
The portrayal of family relationships in Kannywood films is often idealized, but it is unclear how these portrayals influence the actual practice of family unity in rural communities like Funtua. This study seeks to investigate how these films shape attitudes and behaviors related to family unity in the region (Alhaji & Garba, 2023).
